Wanted - Captains!

As you will have seen, we've unfortunately made the call that we cannot continue progression on OD unless we have a captain available. There seems to be a real lack of Australian captains on this server for some reason, and while Nasda's awesome she's often not available on our Sunday raid night so is unable to fully commit to the group.

Essentially, due to the way Turbine is designing raids*, long term we will not be able to be a serious raid group without two captains on our permanent list. I know, I dont like it either, in fact I think it's terrible game design especially from a social perspective, but no matter how awesome you are at DPS or heals, at the end of the day the group would be stronger with a second captain in that slot.

SO guys - if you havethe time to dedicate to making an alts, please, please consider rolling a captain. I know some of you are already and that's great, but we've been seriously thrown off our progression by Aruthar having to step aside due to RL reasons and it's shown that we have very minimal depth in the captain department. This is a long term solution, I know, but please also realise that long term we might have to make some really unfortunate calls about raid slots simply based on class balance, and at the moment we're sorely lacking the most indespensible class.

I've got a captain at level 52, but I don't have a heck of a lot of time to devote to it given that I spend most of my time on psychobabble helping other ppl out with runs (I'm levelling at about one level per week atm lol), and plus, lore-masters are in fairly tight supply as well. Does anyone else know any Aussie cappies or is currently levelling one?

PS. please don't 5 of you go and do this now and all for slots, I just wanted to start a discussion about who might be able to make one long term.

*Fun fact: you know how OD resets the cooldown on class skills? That was basically so they could design fights around captain skills with long cooldowns.

While I have a few alts, none of them are captains and at this stage, I don't even have a spare character slot to make one. At the same time, I really want to keep going with my Champ, not that we seem to have a shortage of them.

yeah, just want to emphasise that I don't want anyone to feel like I'm asking them to go out of their way to do this if they don't want to. Just if you're thinking about rolling a new alt, or have one who's sort of slowly on the build that you're not entirely sure about then this is something to think about. Captain's aren't a very "obvious" class choice so I think a lot of people overlook them, but they are have an enormous impact in raids just because of the way that their skills scale to the content and the way raid content is designed around them. And there's a REAL shortage of them on Imladris due to it being a newly established server where everyone rolled hunters first and their shiny new unlocked rune-keepers second lol (yes, I did this - mine's sitting at 43 never to be levelled again).

There are more captains around than you think. Some chose not to make themselves known, as their other characters get turned down for raids ( we REALLY need your captain, not just another hunter ), some don't get logged in much due to class stagnation, and others just aren't in this timezone.

Just as people tend to be farming, questing whatever, on their other toons, and leave their captain for grouping, it can be difficult to find who has one. And who actually knows how to play one. 65 is too easy to get these days, and someone's alt that skirmed to 65, and just discovered OD ( but knows it on their hunter) isn't going to be a help for you at od t2. I'm also not sure how many people here, would be willing to give up their boa rolls to a captain alt, and not be on their main

You can always try lotro forum though. Advertise. Write in your Bios. Use lffs in your own timezone. I see tons of raiding groups looking for specifc classes --> go to this webpage to signup.

If you are going to bring in new players you may want to be upfront about what exactly you want though. I seem to remember a certain person inviting a herald traited red line into DN some weeks back

Good luck though. I'll help out when I can until I leave the server. Maybe I can find a few people on my friendlist and investigate their timezone.

As I said in PM to you Nasda, good idea and I've cleaned up our public information threads in anticipation of some open recruiting. I've set in writing some pretty basic and clear expectations for what we expect from prospective raiders, hopefully that'll weed out the captains that think that taking an archer herald to a raid is a good idea lol.
